Cholesterol is back on the menu in new Dietary Guidelines for Americans

A government panel's first updated guidelines for healthy eating in five years has withdrawn a longstanding recommendation to Americans to avoid foods that are high in cholesterol--advice that has put eggs off limits for heart-healthy consumers for decades.

The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans, issued Thursday by the Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services, continue to advise Americans to reduce their intake of saturated fat and sodium, and to boost their consumption of fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts.
