China Signs 17 Billion Euro Deal to Buy 30 Airbus A330 Planes

China signed a deal to buy wide-body aircraft from Airbus Group SE worth 17 billion euros ($18.6 billion), intensifying its competition with Boeing Co. in what’s projected to soon become the world’s biggest aircraft market.

The agreement for 30 A330 planes was signed Thursday during a meeting in Beijing between Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The plane purchase was among a number of deals signed at the meeting.
