In April 2014, Chile was hit by an earthquake of 8.2 magnitudes; six people died in the quake and it caused damages worth, nearly, $100 million. But there might be a bigger one on its way. Chile has always been prone to earthquakes and has already faced quite a few high magnitude quakes. The tectonic plates in the region are strained and the earthquake in April wasn’t enough to take away the stress on the plates.
Scientists warn that Chile should expect an earthquake of 9 magnitudes anytime now. The pressure has been building up for nearly 140 years and “the Big One” could hit any day. The scientists believe the mega quake will hit northern Chile, which saw the last major quake in 1877.
