Chemical Reaction helps Disco Clams Produce Light: Study

A recent study revealed that disco clam, a salt lake clam, has a unique little light display which it uses as a defense mechanism against the potential threats. The findings of the study were presented on January 4 at the 2015 annual conference of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology.

Unlike most creatures that produce light, disco clam, a native of the tropical Pacific, doesn't use bio-luminescence, said researchers. But the creature uses a chemical reaction to produce light.
