ChemCam Captures Images of Sparks Flying as Curiosity Laser Blasts Rocks on Mars

On Saturday, July 12, Curiosity clicked sparks flying from a baseball-size rock that was blasted by the 1-ton robot's laser-sampling Chemistry and Camera instrument known as ChemCam.

Curiosity has fired its laser at more than 600 different targets since it touched down on the surface of Mars in August 2012 but the rover had never captured pictures of the resulting sparks before Saturday, said the NASA officials.
