When CEOs talk about future, listen closely

Almost everyone on Wall Street — including the influential Federal Reserve — has weighed in on where they think the U.S. economy is headed after a weak first quarter. But what we haven’t heard yet — but will hear during the first-quarter earnings season — is what top executives in the corner offices of the biggest companies in America think about the business outlook for the rest of the year.

“We haven’t heard yet what companies think is going on with the economy,” says Kate Warne, investment strategist at Edward Jones. “And company CEOs have a much better take.”
