As protesters continue to demonstrate in Ferguson, Mo., New York City and other cities across the country, "Selma" brings the story of the 1965 voting rights movement of the titular town to the big screen.

For those unfamiliar with the tragedy of the era, "Selma" opens with the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church that killed four little girls in Birmingham, Ala., in 1963, and a personal account of Annie Lee Cooper being denied the right to register to vote.
