Cast is sublime in ‘Theory of Everything’

This year’s “The King’s Speech,” “The Theory of Everything” hews so closely to the Masterpiece theater-like tradition of fine British filmmaking that at some level it is a parody of that tradition’s virtues. Eddie Redmayne (“My Week with Marilyn”), an actor whose charms I have for the most part resisted, is simply breathtaking as Stephen Hawking, and Felicity Jones, whose work in the title role in “The Invisible Woman” left me lukewarm, is radiant and triumphant as Jane Wilde Hawking.
