Carnivorous Bladderwort contains Mysterious Genes

A study has revealed that carnivorous bladderwort, an aquatic plant with thread-like branches and tiny traps for capturing prey, has an unusual genome. The genome is smaller than that of most of plants, but more genes are surprisingly present in it.

Findings of the study have been published in Molecular Biology and Evolution. The study on the plant was conducted by the paper's primary author, Victor Albert, of the University of Buffalo.
