A Cape-based marine animal rescue team came to the rescue of a leatherback sea turtle off Sandy Neck Sunday. According to a release from the Center for Coastal Studies, the organization's Marine Animal Entanglement Rescue team (MAER) was notified by the United States Coast Guard about a sea turtle trapped in fishing gear.

Commercial fishermen first spotted the animal and notified the Coast Guard who in turn contacted MAER. The rescue team was on scene in less than an hour.
