Candy bars, sugary sports drinks and fried mozzarella sticks will disappear from schools next year: USDA

Under new rules aimed at curbing childhood obesity made final by the U.S. Department of Agriculture this week, all food sold at schools will need to meet stricter nutrition standards. States also have the power to regulate school bake sales.

High-calorie sports drinks and candy bars will be removed from school vending machines and cafeteria lines as soon as next year, replaced with diet drinks, granola bars and other healthier items.
