Canadian Inflation Stronger Than Expected in January

OTTAWA--Canadian inflation was firmer than expected in January, adding weight to the growing view that the Bank of Canada may not cut interest rates at next week’s policy meeting.

Canada’s headline annual inflation rate slowed to 1.0% in January from 1.5% in the previous month, reflecting a 26.9% plunge in gasoline prices, Statistics Canada said Thursday.
