Britain gives 'Fifty Shades of Grey' over-18 rating

THE DEAL No one under the age of 18 will be allowed to see the big-screen version of E.L. James' S&M-themed novel in the United Kingdom. Though the film has been rated R (17, or younger, if accompanied by an adult) in America, the British Board of Film Classification stamped it with an 18 rating, citing "strong sex and nudity, along with the portrayal of erotic role play based on domination, submission and sadomasochistic practices." The board also noted "strong verbal references to such practices and the instruments used." In its first week of advance ticket sales, "Fifty Shades of Grey," which stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, has become the fastest-selling R-rated film in the 15-year history of Fandango.
