The 12 months of 2014 provided some very strong films, but all a little short of outstanding.

There’s no powerhouse title like “Schindler’s List,” “The Godfather,” “The Last Emperor,” “Lawrence of Arabia” or “West Side Story” to sweep into the winner’s circle and inspire viewers to rush out and either see them in theaters or watch at home in media rooms.
