FREEHOLD, N.J. — Five hours before the so-called doorbuster deals at Walmart, a slow trickle of shoppers, mostly in pairs or shopping alone, picked up last minute groceries for Thanksgiving dinners at the store here.
They eyed aisles stacked with pallets of merchandise cordoned off and labeled: “This merchandise is for Black Friday and is not going to be scanned at the register.”
