Better Metabolic Profile for Teenagers Who Eat Nuts

SAN DIEGO -- Teenagers who ate the equivalent of a small handful of nuts three times per week had a significantly lower risk of metabolic syndrome, a researcher reported here.

Nut intake was independently associated with metabolic syndrome after adjustments for age, gender, race, income, and intake of sugar, fruit, and vegetables (odds ratio 0.43, 95% CI 0.32-0.93; P=0.027) for more than 2,000 U.S. adolescents who reported eating at least 12.9 grams of nuts per day.
