Beaumont mosquitos test positive for West Nile

Kevin Sexton, mosquito control director for Jefferson County, said the infected mosquitoes came from South 11th Street and Corley in Beaumont. The batch was collected on Aug. 19 and the county’s mosquito control department was altered late Wednesday afternoon.

So far this is the first batch of the season that has tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitoes collected on Aug. 5 at Normandy Avenue and 32nd Street in Port Arthur tested positive for the St. Louis encephalitis virus.
