WASHINGTON — For the first time in almost 70 years the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington has a bald eagle nest with eggs that are nearly ready to hatch.

Arboretum officials said Friday they are not sure how many eggs are in the nest, but they believe the eggs were laid in late January. Officials say they expect the eaglets to hatch possibly as soon as this week.
