Baking soda could eliminate CO2 emissions from atmosphere

Could an easily available substance like baking soda clean the air of CO2 emissions? The answers seems to be yes as a new emissions-scrubbing system has been developed by the researchers at Harvard University and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory which the researchers claim is less power hungry and makes use of components which are more environment friendly.
