ASTRONOMICALLY SPEAKING Up close and personal with a comet

On Nov. 12, people around the world had their eyes on what is likely one of the biggest astronomical happenings of the decade. The Philae lander touched down on comet 67P after a 10-year chase, some 310 million miles from Earth. The mission, which the European Space Agency is conducting with some help from our friends at NASA, is the closest we’ve ever gotten to a comet.

Among the hundreds of awesome things about this mission, here’s something that makes it even cooler: scientists from this university are working on it.
