Arctic melting leads to more severe summer heat waves: research

Arctic ice melting will likely make summer heat waves even worse because of a disruption in atmospheric conditions, researchers from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research warned.

The researchers said that a warming arctic is interfering with the jet stream, which is causing summer storms to diminish. In Turn, the decline in storm activity is leading to an increase in summer heat waves.
