Archaeologists uncover 330 year old “war camel” skeleton

Archaeologists have discovered the skeleton of a more than 300 year old “war camel” left behind in an Austrian cellar by the Ottoman Army during the siege of Vienna in the 17th century.

The complete skeleton, which was either traded or left behind in the Austrian town of Tulln in the wake of the siege in 1683, bears clues as to its value as a riding animal for the Ottomans according to DNA analysis of the remains.
