App Could Help Parents Confirm Jaundice in Infants

Research presented at the International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp 2014) in Seattle, WA highlighted a new smartphone app that could assist healthcare providers and parents in screening for jaundice in newborns.

Named the BiliCam, the app can process pictures of a baby taken with a smartphone and provide a report on the likelihood of jaundice based on skin color after adjusting for color and white balance, different lighting conditions, and skin tones.
