More people were put to death in countries around the world last year than in any other year during the past quarter-century, Amnesty International said Tuesday.
The report said at least 1,634 people were executed in 2015, a rise of 54 percent from the year before and the highest number the human rights watchdog has recorded since 1989.

Death is an easy escape. Life in prison is worse.

I am of two minds about capital punishment... first it goes against the grain of the 6th Commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." I don't care if you are religious or not, this was a commandment from God. It is being broken on a daily basis here in the United States. Capital Punishment is not a deterrent for those who are bent on killing another human being outside of a combat zone. Secondly, the United States briefly placed a moratorium on capital punishment when the Supreme Court (Furman v. Georgia) ruled it being unconstitutional, a decision which lasted for 10 years. In that time, homicides rates exploded across the country, an economic inflation also took place preventing new prisons to be built. The result was a massive overcrowding of existing prisons that lead to several notable prison riots (Attica being the most notorious). It is, in my mind, likened to grasping a bull by the horns; you don't like it, but you don't dare let go, either.

Capital Punishment should be mandatory in any country. Central America is run by thugs and criminals because of you, Amnesty International, and have destroyed our families and peace and placed a burden on us by supporting criminal in jail for life. If you want criminals to live then you should support them.

What I find interesting is how we find putting a dog in a cage for their entire life cruel, so we put them down. But, putting a human being in a cage for life is providing mercy? Illogical.

Really a matter of perspective. Police and the military in countries can avoid a formally published capital punishment number by simply killing them when they find them without a trial.

Heck, I can find more than 1600 people in this county who deserve the death penalty. It's time we bring it back, not only for murder, but for rape, theft, and other traditional capital offences under the common law.

How many people were executed by drone, barrel bomb, missle, 500 pounder, or even just a knife? More have been executed by governments as collateral damage.

The sad part is the bleeding hearts in Amnesty International would rather see people who commit atrocities(i.e. France, Belgium, California) serve life in prison than get the punishment they deserve. They do not care about the people they killed why should care about them?

When murder victims get amnesty I will think about doing away with the death penalty Also to the terrorist its a badge on honor to kill innocent people in the name of < The Religion Of Peace >.

....the sooner the death penalty is restored in Australia, the better for everyone...except criminals/terrorists/rapists/murderers/pedophiles
