Amazon rainforests fertilized by dust coming all the way from Sahara

According to a new report published in Geophysical Research Letters, dust from the Sahara desert brings huge quantity of phosphorous to Amazon rainforest.

Earlier, scientists did know that plumes of dust travel thousands miles to the Amazon basin. But this study shows that dust holds large amount of phosphorus that fertilizes the rain forest. Every year, nearly twenty two thousand tons of dust brings phosphorous to Amazon rain forest.
