Alaska’s most active volcano blows its top

Pavlof, an Alaskan mountain peak with a lengthy track record of volcanic eruptions, unleashed a blast over the last few days that sent ash 22,000 feet up into the air and made nearby skies unsafe for aircraft.

Volcano researchers are keeping an eye on Alaska’s most active volcano following its eruption Monday afternoon. The event sent a cloud of ash billowing up to 22,000 feet into the air and imperiled local airline flights.
