The prestigious Kavli Prize in Astrophysics has been awarded to Alan Guth. Guth is the MIT physicist who scrawled the words 'spectacular realization' in his notebook more than three decades ago. He managed to figure out some details of the first split-seconds of the universe.
Guth has received the honor for his theory of inflation, which explains the bang of the Big Bang. Many experts believed that the theory was confirmed by an experiment at the South Pole that helped in knowing a particular swirly polarization pattern in the early light of the universe.
