Alabama poultry producers track avian flu outbreak

Alabama's poultry producers are watching the spread of a virulent strain of avian influenza that is sweeping the West and Midwest, which has led to millions of chickens and turkeys being euthanized to prevent its spread.

Poultry generates an annual economic impact of about $15 billion and supports more than 86,000 jobs, according to the Alabama Poultry and Egg Association.
