Early goal-directed therapy (EGDT) did not reduce mortality among septic shock patients, when compared with bedside decision making by clinicians.

Thus concluded the Protocolized Care for Early Septic Shock (ProCESS) study and two other septic shock studies presented at the International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (ISICEM) in Belgium today. The other studies addressed albumin replacement and blood pressure targets.
