The brains of babies and toddlers are "plastic," explains Alison Gopnik, author of The Philosophical Baby: What Children's Minds Tell Us About Truth, Love, and the Meaning of Life and a professor of psychology and affiliate professor of philosophy at the University of California at Berkeley. That means they're constantly making new connections, and lots of them. "The evidence, nowadays, is that there's potential for that even in old age," she says.
