72 year old Hawaiian woman receives bionic eyes

A 72 year old Japanese woman received the first bionic eyes in the Asia Pacific Region after a four hour procedure of bionic eye transplant at the Eye Surgery Center of Hawaii.

The woman’s identity has not been disclosed but she reportedly went blind two years ago due to an incurable hereditary disease called retinitis pigmentosa, a condition that causes vision impairment. Before the surgery, she was only able to recognize some forms of light.
