60,000 Pounds of Chicken Products Recalled Due to Bacterial Contamination

The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the Agriculture Department released a statement that two companies have recalled nearly 60,000 pounds of chicken products that are possibly infected with staph and salmonella. The two bacterial strains release toxins that cause food poisoning and other gastrointestinal illnesses if a person consumes any contaminated food items.

Salmonella can cause severe gastric distress and diarrhea within 24 to 72 hours of consumption of contaminated foods, while staph infections can cause gastroenteritis.
