CHICAGO -- In recognition of the evolution and progress in cancer care, the American Society of Clinical Oncology will devote a considerable portion of its annual meeting to a review of how far the field has come since its first gathering 50 years ago.

The meeting dates back to April 9, 1965, when about 70 members of ASCO and invited guests gathered for a single day in one meeting room at a hotel in Philadelphia. That meeting was held in conjunction with the meeting of the much larger and more established American Association for Cancer Research.
