Ebola has infected an estimated 7,470 people and claimed the lives of 3,431, mostly in West Africa. These numbers, as well as the death of Thomas Eric Duncan in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, are a fearsome testament to how rapidly the virus can decimate a community.
