The 34th annual John Day Christmas Bird Count will be held on December 20 this year. The Grant County Bird Club members will get together at 7 a. m. at the Outpost Restaurant. Participants are asked to dress to be out in the weather for the day. People have to bring binoculars, a field guide, lunch and beverages, because most groups will be out of town for the full day.
Christmas Bird Counts have been done around the world for over 100 years, depending on volunteer citizen scientists. A specific methodology has been followed but everyone can take part. Beginning birders will join a group that includes minimum one experienced birdwatcher.
