With 30 seasons under its belt Survivor is one of TV's most enduring franchises

As the new season of Survivor begins airing this week and the latest batch of castaways try to outwit, outplay and outlast each other, it's hard not to marvel at the show's very survival. By its eighth season in 2004, Survivor was already the longest-running reality program on American TV. Now the show is about to launch Season 30, which, as host and executive producer Jeff Probst agrees, is a remarkable milestone by any measure.

"I think it's disingenuous [for me] to say anything other than that it is an amazing milestone," he enthuses, on the phone from LA. "We're almost at 500 episodes of prime-time television that has, in its timeslot, dominated in the ratings, been [broadcast] in over 120 countries for the last 15 year...
