2nd Group of Aid Convoys Heads to 3 Besieged Towns in Syria

GENEVA — A second group of aid convoys left Damascus, the Syrian capital, for the besieged town of Madaya and the surrounding area on Thursday as part of a United Nations effort to bring urgently needed relief to people left starving for months.

Trucks laden with food, medicines, blankets and other supplies to ward off severe winter cold set off from Damascus in the morning and headed north to Madaya, Fouaa and Kfarya in Idlib Province, said Jens Laerke, a spokesman in Geneva for the United Nations agency coordinating humanitarian aid.
