Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul is besieged by between 1,000 and 2,000 ISIL terrorist fighters, and the U.S.-guided operation for its liberation will take place in April or May, nearly a year after its occupation began. The operation will take 12 brigades, or the equivalent of 25,000 Iraqi Security Forces, Kurdish Peshmerga forces and police and tribal militias.

That information was released to Pentagon reporters by a U.S. Central Command official, who spoke on background on a conference call on Thursday.
