It's easy to hate on Adam Sandler. He's nearly every critic's favorite whipping boy. So rather than focus on the worst movies of the year, which would likely feature at least one disaster with Sandler in it, I'm looking at the five promising films that should have been so much better.
"Transcendence": The soul of a brilliant (is there any other kind?) scientist (Johnny Depp) gets hard-wired into a machine and demigod. Never have I wished for a computer virus to wipe everything away.
