The Dust Bowl drought of 1934 was the worst ever in the history of North America in the past one thousand years, according to a fresh research by a team of scientists from NASA and Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

The team of scientists reconstructed the history of droughts for the region using modern practices and analyzing tree-ring records covering years from 1000 AD to 2005 AD.
