Thirteen "thugs" were shot dead today by Chinese police after they rammed their car into a police station and set off an explosion in a suicide attack that injured three officers in the restive Xinjiang province. "Today thugs crashed a car into the public security building of Kargilik county in Xinjiang's Kashgar prefecture and set off an explosion. Police took decisive action and shot dead 13 thugs," the official Tianshan web portal reported.
Police shot dead 13 attackers while three policemen were injured, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The report described those killed as "mobsters". Xinjiang is restive for the past several years over native Uygur Muslim's agitation, opposing settlements of Hans from other provinces.
